Melissa A. Parenti, Ed.D. earned her doctoral degree in Teacher Preparation at the University of Southern California (USC) and is an Assistant Professor of Literacy at St. John’s University in New York City. Prior to her work as a professor, Dr. Parenti spent 15 years in the field of K-12 education as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and professional development consultant in diverse communities throughout Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City. She currently presents at conferences nationally in areas related to literacy development and effective Reading English Language Arts instruction. Additionally, she serves on several editorial review boards and actively researches best practices for work with struggling readers in urban landscapes.
