Dustin Covell, Ph.D.
Covell comes to St. John’s University as an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His graduate research centered on the development and implementation of novel CH activation reactions and strategies that increase the efficiency of chemical synthesis. In his postdoctoral research, Covell focused on characterizing agents responsible for neurodegenerative diseases and understanding their mechanisms. In his future research, he plans to combine these interests using efficient organic syntheses to develop molecules that enable new approaches to understanding the biochemical mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease and target the misfolded protein aggregates that are hallmarks of the disease.
