In his lifetime, St. Vincent established seminaries and made
formation of good priests and brothers one of the three principal
goals of the Congregation of the Mission.
In the Eastern Province of the United States, formation occurs
in four ways: first with that of our Vincentian seminarians
studying theology at the post-graduate level, living in a residence
in Jamaica, NY, and attending the Seminary of the Immaculate
Conception in Huntington, Long Island, NY. Secondly, with that
of our Vincentian seminarians majoring in philosophy at the
under-graduate level, living in Jamaica, NY, and attending St.
John’s University, also in Jamaica, NY. Thirdly, Vincentian
priests also serve on the faculties of the Seminary of the
Immaculate Conception and St. John’s University where they teach
and engage in spiritual direction for both Vincentian and diocesan
seminarians. And finally, our missioners who serve in Panama
also run a formation program for young Panamanian men studying to
be Vincentian priests and brothers.
