Baccalaureate Mass 2010- May 14, 2010, Campus Center, Upper
Level
The evening before the Staten Island campus Commencement
Exercises, we gathered as a Catholic, Vincentian family to pray
with our graduates for their contributions to St. John's over their
years with us and for the bright futures that await them. Fr.
Patrick Griffin, C.M., Executive Vice President for Mission and
Branch Campuses, was the celebrant. Frs. John Kettelberger,
C.M., University Chaplain and Kevin Creagh, C.M.,Associate Vice President for International Sites &
Chaplain, School of Law, concelebrated.
Campus Ministry Spring Break Plunge to New Orleans- March 7-13,
2010, New Orleans, LA
For the past five years, Campus Ministry has offered the
opportunity for students from the Queens and Staten Island campuses
the ability to use their Spring Break and help out families in New
Orleans affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This March saw
a new group continue our tradition of Vincentian service down in
the "Crescent City."
Lenten Justice Lecture 2010 - "The Great Work: Thomas Berry’s
Vision of The Ecological Age"- February 18, 2010, Kiernan
Suite, Kelleher Center
Sr. Kathleen Deignan, CND, GreenFaith Fellow, Professor of
Religious Studies, Director of the Iona Spirituality Institute,
Iona College and Artist in Residence for Schola Ministries,
reflected on our current ecological issues and how we can preserve
the earth for future generations using the insights of Fr. Thomas
Berry, the late cultural historian.

SVdP Thanksgiving Basket Delivery- November 24, 2009, DaSilva
Academic Center
Sponsored by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP), our
campus community donates food for needy families on Staten Island
in order to provide them the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving
as a family. Members of SVdP, VITAL 1 and the Future Alumni
Association assisted in gathering the food together into baskets to
distribute.
Feeding the Spiritual Hunger- November 17, 2009, Kiernan Suite,
Kelleher Center
This event, offered during Hunger Awareness Month, focused
on feeding our spiritual hunger with prayer. Led by Fr.
Everestus Igwe, C.M., we learned about how the spirit is fed in Fr.
Igwe's home nation of Nigeria. All in attendance were invited
to sing, move and pray.
Hunger Banquet 2009- November 12, 2009, Kiernan Suite, Kelleher
Center
Sponsored by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) each
Hunger Awareness Month, students gathered for a powerful dinner and
presentation that seeks to educate our community on the issues of
hunger and poverty throughout the world.
Coin Wars II- November 9 - 13, 2009, Campus Center
Cafeteria
The fund-raising competition that makes "cents" in the fight
against hunger and poverty returned for its most successful
campaign. Over $1,500 was raised for food pantries and soup
kitchens throughout Staten Island. Student Goverment, Inc.
was the winner of "Coin Wars II," raising $306.
Staten Island Campus Ministry Open House 2009- October 6, Notre
Dame House
Each year, Campus Ministry opens the red door at the front
of Notre Dame House and invites the Staten Island campus community
to come in and see what we can offer you. Outside, hot dogs,
pretzels, pop corn and cotton candy were served, a DJ provided
music, the volleyball courts were up to play and the tables were
stacked with opportunities for students to take part in Campus
Ministry's events.
Freshman Retreat 2009- September 19-20 - Huntington, NY
