Campus Ministry Welcome Lunch
On Thursday, September 16th, students welcomed the new academic year with the Campus Ministry Welcome Lunch. The lunch, which took place in the Mahoney Courtyard, brought together returning students and freshman alike to learn about the programs and opportunities offered by Campus Ministry.

University Wide Service Day
The University Wide Service Day, held on September 25th, brought the St. John’s community together to celebrate the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul. The Service Day was organized by the Vincentian Service Council. Staten Island reached its goal of 100 faculty, administrators, staff and students volunteering at five locations: Lily Pond Nursing Home, Clove Lakes Park, Good Counsel Home, Project Hospitality and Carmel-Richmond Nursing Home.

Opening School Mass
The Opening School Mass, held on September 30th, brought together faculty, administrators, staff and students to celebrate the beginning of the school year. The mass was celebrated by Fr. Michael Carroll, who welcomed those joining the St. John’s family. Student leaders were also recognized at the Mass for their service and leadership.

Midnight-Run
The first midnight-run of the year brought together students to make sandwiches and sort through clothing.  They went into Manhattan to distribute food and clothing and share in conversation with the homeless.

Habitat for Humanity and the Today Show
Four members of Habitat for Humanity joined the Today Show at Rockefeller Center to build homes for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.  They worked throughout the night in order to build homes for people who lost everything.

American-Spirit Softball Game
The St. Vincent de Paul Society and the St. John’s community came together for a charity softball game at East Shore Little League.  The group raised money for the Justin LiGreci Foundation's Camp Hope, which will send a child with AIDS to summer camp.

Candy Sale
The St. Vincent de Paul Society sold pink lolly-pops to raise money for the Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk.  They also raised awareness about Breast Cancer by distributing informational pamphlets.
