Ronald McDonald House

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island
The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island is an organization that
provides the comforts of home for families with seriously ill
children undergoing critical medical treatment in local hospitals.
Throughout the school year, students will participate in the family
dinner program where they provide a home-cooked meal and share in
conversation with families staying at the facility.

ESL Fifth Avenue Committee

Fifth Avenue Committee, Brooklyn
St. John’s students will help parents understand their child’s
homework, as well as engage in English conversation with the adults
who need to practice English as a second language. The ESL Fifth
Avenue Committee program is a great opportunity to learn more about
other cultures by interacting with people from different countries
around the world.

St. John’s University students volunteer will make and
distribute sandwiches and clothing to the homeless in Manhattan. An
integral part of the service, students get to know the men and
women they meet, hear their stories and become fully aware of the
need of others.

Fridays in the Soup Kitchen

Bread and Life Soup Kitchen, Brooklyn
Groups will serve at St. John’s Bread and Life in Brooklyn.
Service is typically in the food line or the food pantry for the
lunch period and is a memorable service experience.

St. Nick’s Men’s Shelter, Jamaica, Queens
A visit to the St. Nick's Men's Shelter offers students the
opportunity to be engaged in cooking dinner and sharing fellowship
with the homeless in a shelter setting. Students will also help set
up the beds before the homeless arrive to the site. It is a
rewarding service experience.

Mobile Soup Kitchen

Holy House of Prayer, Brooklyn
The Mobile Soup Kitchen is a customized recreational vehicle
that serves daily hot meals and provides outreach services to a
number of New York City’s most impoverished communities. Students
volunteer to prepare and hand out meals to people who, because of
lack of transportation, cannot visit the St. John’s Bread and Life
Soup Kitchen.

Ozanam Nursing Home

Ozanam Hall of Queens, Bayside
Ozanam Hall of Queens is a nursing home that provides student
with the chance to spend time with the elderly on a weekly basis.
Students will offer companionship by engaging in conversation,
reading and playing board games with the residents.

Provide food and clothes to the homeless of New York City. This
event includes making sandwiches, sorting clothes and distributing
these items in Manhattan.
