Founder's Week 2008 - Vincentian Chair of Social Justice Lecture with Most Reverend Nicholas A. DiMarzio, Ph.D., D.D., Queens Campus

January 31, 2008 4:00 PM
Moot Court Room, School of Law, Queens Campus

As we celebrate Founder’s Week 2008, we look to deepen our understanding of the Vincentian mission of St. John’s. This year we celebrate the unity of humankind and our interdependence in the world. During the week, we seek to examine our responsibility to love - “extending our hearts and minds to nurture our own and the other’s good.”

Vincentian Chair of Social Justice Lecture

Speaker
Most Reverend Nicholas A. DiMarzio, Ph.D., D.D.
Bishop of Brooklyn

The Vincentian Chair of Social Justice, established and endowed by the Board of Trustees of St. John's University and the Congregation of the Mission in 1994, focuses on issues of social justice and the social teaching of the Church. Its creation responded directly to the challenge Pope John Paul II issued in 1986 to the world-wide Vincentian community not only to only serve the poor, but also to search out causes of poverty and to investigate solutions. The Chair sponsors this annual lecture each year during Founder’s Week as well as ongoing research and interdisciplinary projects on poverty alleviation, social justice and the relationship of religion and science.
