Just PeaceFounder's Week: January 26 - February 1,
2002"If you want peace, work for justice." -
Pope Paul VI
In the wake of 9-11, the St. John’s
community turned to our Founder, St Vincent de Paul for comfort and
courage. He lived in times of war and encouraged persons to
work to heal those injured by war, to seek justice to prevent more
injury and to pray. Wherever injustice prevails, harmony is
unlikely. Those who are oppressed -- politically, socially, or
economically -- cannot accept the world as it is. Neither should
we.
Realizing this, the Vincentian community
aims to achieve a just peace -- the theme of this year's Founder's
Week celebration. By recognizing and striving to address the needs
of those less fortunate than ourselves, we can actually enhance
opportunities for peace at home and abroad.
