Seeking Truth in the Vincentian
TraditionFounder's Week: January 22 - 30, 1999“They who act ingenuously and speak
sincerely...are esteemed and loved everywhere." - St. Vincent de
Paul
The core value of the University - Truth,
is described as seeking knowledge in accord with reality and
behavior faithful to ethical standards. In our world of
corporate scandals, spin doctors, and post-modern relativism, how
can we come to know what is right and just?
Our Founder, St. Vincent encourages us to
put on the virtue of simplicity -- being the same on the outside as
we are on the inside, our appearance reflecting our hearts.
And as seekers of truth, we need to promote honesty and
transparency in our relationships with others. This
year's Founder's Week considers the many manifestations of ethical
behavior from a distinctly Vincentian perspective. In the workplace
and through acts of service to those in need, we look at the
ways that professionals and students can promote justice
through ethics.
