Founder's Week 1998

Opportunity: See the Possibilities…Seize the Opportunities
Founder's Week - January 26 - 31, 1998

“The hand of God is always outstretched for those who wish to clasp it.” – St. Vincent de Paul

A University is “opportunity.”  Opportunity to realize the fullness of our humanity, opportunity to live our dreams, opportunity to contribute to the world we live in.  St. Vincent de Paul sought out opportunities to make the world more responsive to the needs of the poor.  Through teaching, academic research, study, professional endeavors as well as volunteer service, the St. John’s University community continues the mission of alleviating poverty and creating opportunities for others.

We explore the University core value of “Opportunity—occasions for serving others and preparing one’s self for a fulfilling life” in our Founder’s Week activities.
