Judith Mbula Bahemuka, is the Ambassador/Permanent
Representative of Kenya to the United Nations. She represents Kenya
at the UNESCO Board where she chairs the Committee on Women and
Sustainable Development. Ambassador Bahemuka is a sociologist and
has focused on poverty reduction and sustainable development. She
established the International Learning Center at the University of
Nairobi, where she is also a professor.
She worked with the Kenya National AIDS Secretariat and
internationally, with the Global Partners Project that brings
together the Great Lakes Colleges Association. As a consultant to
the Holy See in the Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue, she
participated in the African Bishops Synod of 1994. Professor
Bahemuka holds a Doctorate from the University of Nairobi; Post
Doctorate Certificate in International Agriculture and Rural
Development from Cornell University and a Certificate in
International Relations from Humphrey Institute at the University
of Minnesota as well as several honorary degrees.
