On Saturday, September 23, 2006, more than 1,000 members of the
St. John’s University community gathered at the Queens, Staten
Island, Oakdale and Manhattan Campuses to participate in the Fifth
Annual University Service Day. Students, faculty, administrators,
staff and alumni provided community service at more than 75 sites
in celebration of the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul.
Some of the sites included nursing homes, high schools, parks,
medical and pharmacy centers. Rev. Michael J. Carroll, C.M. who led
the morning prayer in Staten Island and who organizes the yearly
event, noting the record number of participants this year said,
“This is a great opportunity for people who have never done
community service before.” Most volunteers, he added, return the
following year.
We invite you to relive the warmth and vitality by reviewing the
