Queens Campus celebrated University Service Day with the largest
number of volunteers in the four-year history of this effort of the
Service Opportunity Council. We organized over 600 volunteers
in 43 teams who served at 32 different locations in Queens,
Brooklyn, Nassau, and Suffolk. At one location the Southern Queens
Park Association, Inc. at Roy Wilkins Park, we bussed almost 200
volunteers to the site. We visited the sick and elderly,
recreated with children, held a mock trial with a fifth grade class
in the Belson Moot Court Room in the Law School, held basketball
and cheerleading and dance clinics, cleaned parks and did a mailing
for a local community organization. As Vincent said, “Love is
inventive unto infinity.” Queens Campus demonstrated love and
creativity in service. Rev. Joseph Daly, C.M., led the
volunteers in a prayer service before they departed for the
community animated by Vincent's spirit.
