Ensuring Innovative Education

To ensure that innovative programs and methods will be available for future diverse and at-risk learners, The School of Education has created its first Ph.D. program. The Ph.D. in Literacy prepares students to become teacher educators, school literacy specialists or literacy leader advocates, thereby developing a cadre of skilled professionals qualified to tackle the difficulties faced by many urban schools.

“Students choosing to teach at inner city schools will benefit by being better trained to meet the challenges presented by this student sector,” explains Dean Jerrold Ross. “The program combines theory and experiential teaching, opening up more opportunities for our students to become effective problem solvers as urban school principals and curriculum planners.”
