To ensure that innovative programs and methods will be available
for future diverse and at-risk learners, The School of Education
has created its first Ph.D. program. The Ph.D. in Literacy prepares
students to become teacher educators, school literacy specialists
or literacy leader advocates, thereby developing a cadre of skilled
professionals qualified to tackle the difficulties faced by many

our students to become effective problem solvers as urban school
