Lectures by Global Leaders

Many internationally known leaders and experts in their fields addressed the University community including:

  • New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, who spoke about “The True Meaning of a Global Education”
  • President of Ireland Mary McAleese, who received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from St. John’s and used the occasion to speak about the Vincentian charism and Ireland’s recent economic and social progress
  • ABC Chief Washington Correspondent and former President Clinton policy adviser George Stephanopoulos who delivered the University’s May 2007 Commencement address
  • Dr. Mansoor Khan, Federal Drug Administration Director of Product Quality Research, who spoke at the inaugural Dr. Charles I. Jarowski Industry Pharmacy Seminar
  • Famed novelist and journalist Pete Hamill who discussed his book Downtown: My Manhattan as part of St. John’s annual Academic Lecture Series
  • Special Projects Coordinator for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Joan Rosenhauer who led a panel on global solidarity and delivered the keynote speech at Founder’s Week 2007 on “Pursuing Justice for Immigrants: Personal Reflection and a Case Study of the Church’s Role.”
