St. John’s University’s Summer Program in Argentina offered
graduate and undergraduate courses taught in both Spanish and
English. Students engaged in the direct experience of living in
South America’s second largest country. Included were guest
lectures by Argentinean scholars on issues ranging from Mercosur
(the South American Trade Bloc) to 20th-century literature. The
program took place in beautiful Buenos Aires and in Corrientes, on
the border with Brazil and Paraguay, “thus enabling the students,”
explained Program Director Dr. Alina Camacho-Gingerich, “to
experience life in the capital city as well as in one of its
splendid provinces.” The session concluded with a visit to the
world famous Iguazu Falls.
