The blessing and groundbreaking ceremony for St. Thomas More Church is held in November. Situated near the center of the campus, the 400-seat free-standing church will be the gateway to the residence village, a backdrop to the academic core of campus and a spiritual center for all.
Donovan Hall, the most recently built of six on-campus residence halls at St. John's University's Queens campus, is singled out as a “Project of the Year” by the Construction Management Association of America, Metro NY/NJ Chapter.
Donovan Hall Donovan Hall, named for the family of Thomas F. Donovan, ’55C, ’86HON, opened its doors to students Saturday, August 31. 2002. The six-story, 117,000 square-foot Donovan Hall was designed by Einhorn Yaffee Prescott, Architects and built by the construction firm of Barney Skanska. It houses 115 suites, each consisting of one double room and one triple room sharing a bath. Donovan Hall is outfitted with telecommunications, data and cable outlets for each of the approximately 540 residents. The garden level consists of administration offices, campus minister's apartment, common rooms, pantry, meditation room and mechanical rooms. The exterior of the building is designed to complement the existing residence halls on campus with custom brick and stone accents, aluminum and glass curtain walls and a standing seam metal roof. Punched openings for sleeping room windows give the building residential appeal.
