The St. John's men's basketball team
rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday,
April 10, 2003, to celebrate the University's sixth National
Invitation Tournament championship.NYSE host, Dick Grasso, Chairman and CEO, was on hand to welcome
Head Coach Mike Jarvis; Dave Wegrzyn, Vice President for
Development and Athletics, and the 2003 NIT Champions.
"We're thrilled to be recognized and have the honor to ring the
opening bell on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange,"
Jarvis said.
Led by senior guard Marcus Hatten, St. John's won the NIT title
April 3 before 12,406 fans at Madison Square Garden. The Red Storm
closed out the season with a record of 21-13, winners of nine of
their last 10 games.
Of course, all of St. John’s athletic programs proved to be
winners both on and off the courts and fields this year -- Red
Storm athletes continued to perform at top levels as athletes,
scholars and champions. Highlights follow.
