Red Storm Makes Big Noise on Wall Street

The St. John's men's basketball team rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, April 10, 2003, to celebrate the University's sixth National Invitation Tournament championship.

NYSE host, Dick Grasso, Chairman and CEO, was on hand to welcome Head Coach Mike Jarvis; Dave Wegrzyn, Vice President for Development and Athletics, and the 2003 NIT Champions.

"We're thrilled to be recognized and have the honor to ring the opening bell on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange," Jarvis said.

Led by senior guard Marcus Hatten, St. John's won the NIT title April 3 before 12,406 fans at Madison Square Garden. The Red Storm closed out the season with a record of 21-13, winners of nine of their last 10 games.

Of course, all of St. John’s athletic programs proved to be winners both on and off the courts and fields this year -- Red Storm athletes continued to perform at top levels as athletes, scholars and champions. Highlights follow.
