There is something profoundly inspirational about a couple
joined in faith, particularly a faith that bespeaks a lifelong
commitment to the service of others. The lives of Tony and Christie
de Nicola strikingly reflect Jesus’ reminder that “whatever you did
for these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”
After earning his B.A. in Economics summa cum laude from DePauw
University and his M.B.A. with distinction from Harvard Graduate
School of Business Administration, Tony began a distinguished
career in the private equity industry. He has held impressive
positions at Goldman Sachs, William Blair & Company, and
currently serves as Co-President of Welsh, Carson, Anderson
& Stowe, a $20 billion private investment firm that he joined
in 1994.
Christie earned her degree from Ferris State University and
pursued a career as a paralegal in Boston and New York City. The
couple married in 1987, and for the past quarter-century have
shared their time, talents and resources to make a difference for
those less fortunate, with a special focus on fostering the
availability of Catholic education for inner-city students.
Tony is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Cardinal’s
Inner City Scholarship Fund of the Archdiocese of New York, created
to provide tuition assistance for underprivileged youth in the
Archdiocese’s urban schools. He served on the strategic planning
committee for the schools of the Archdiocese of New York and
chaired the same committee for the Archdiocese of Newark’s schools.
He is a Member of the Archdiocese of New York’s Catholic Foundation
and its Lay Pension Investment Committee, a Member of the Finance
Council for the Archdiocese of Newark and a founding Board Member
of Brilla Academy, a new charter school devoted to the impoverished
families in the Mott Haven section of The Bronx. He previously
served on the Board of Trustees and other boards for DePauw
University.
Christie possesses an equally powerful commitment to Catholic
social action. She served extensively as a Member of the Boards of
St. Elizabeth’s Home School Association and of the Strategic
Planning Committee of Don Bosco Preparatory High School. She has
led the Pro-Life Ministry and organized trips to the March for Life
in Washington, DC with students and fellow parishioners from her
home parish. She also shares her time and talents with HIV/AIDS
sufferers living in New Jersey’s Harrison House, with the women and
children seeking shelter at Several Sources Women’s Shelter, and by
serving at St. Martin’s Soup Kitchen in Jersey City.
Both Christie and Tony are members of The Equestrian Order of
the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and are Stewards of St. Peter in
The Papal Foundation established to support the Holy Father and his
works in the world.
