I am delighted to begin my tenure as the interim president of St.
John’s University. Like every member of our academic community, I
look forward to serving as a steward of the remarkable Vincentian
spirit that has guided this institution for more than 140
This is a university that I have known quite well. As a former
Chairman of its Board of Trustees from 1990 to 1999, I was
delighted to witness the countless ways in which St. John’s
prepares young men and women for meaningful lives dedicated to
excellence and service. In the years since, I have remained
interested in the University’s growing prominence in Catholic
higher education. As a member of the Congregation of the Mission
and President of St. John’s sister institution, Niagara University,
from 2000 until this past May, I took great pleasure in witnessing
St. John’s ongoing achievements.
I am excited by the prospect of everything we can continue to
accomplish together. This University is in a remarkable position to
strengthen its mission as a Catholic and Vincentian institution,
educating new generations of ethical professionals eager to make
our world a better place.
I thank all of you—students, parents, faculty, administrators,
staff, alumni and friends—for your efforts and prayers, as we
strive together for continuing success on behalf of this
distinguished institution of higher learning.
Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M.
