St. John's Professor Jay Nathan Visits Republic of Kazakhstan

Promotes Academic Programming in Central
Asian Region for The Peter J. Tobin College of Business

Jay Nathan, Ph.D., The
Peter J. Tobin College of Business returned recently from a
successful trip to Kazakhstan in Central Asia to discuss curriculum
with Byrganym Aitimova, Minister of Education and Science for the
Republic of Kazakhstan and Prof.dr. Erkara Aimagambetov, Rector of
Karaganda University of Economics.
St. John’s and Kazakhstan officials have agreed to a
professional training program in the United States to be hosted in
New York at the University’s Manhattan Campus in 2006. Dr. Richard
Highfield, Dean of the Tobin College of Business has
approved the eight-day program titled, “How Business Works”
which will incorporate between 15-20 Kazakhstan professionals
organized by the St. John’s Center for Professional Education.
The aspects of the program will include: Introduction to
Business, Finance, Accounting, Information Technology, Risk
Management and Insurance, Management, Marketing, Human Resource
Management, Law and Ethics, Economics and Strategic Planning during
the week long session tentatively scheduled for the summer of
2006.
“My trip was successful in what we hope will forge a long
relationship with the Republic of Kazakhstan and St.
John’s Tobin College of Business,” Nathan said. “The
Minister and Deputy Minister of Education and Sciences for the
Republic of Kazakhstan ranked this initiative high on their
priority list for their teaching, government and business
professionals. They look forward to this summer’s visit to
New York with great anticipation.”
