Rev. Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s University Available for Interviews for Papal Visit

Senior President, entering his 20th year,
available on April 17 at Catholic University
Rev.
Donald J. Harrington, C.M., President of St. John’s University
(NY), looks upon his upcoming meeting with Pope Benedict XVI and Catholic Leaders of
Colleges and Universities throughout the U.S. as a historic
personal experience. He was in attendance in 1987 (as President of
Niagara University) as Pope John Paul II gathered the same
prestigious group at Xavier University of Louisiana (in New
Orleans) for what would be the first meeting of its kind in
America.
“It was a wonderful experience and a wonderful message,” said
Rev. Harrington, C.M. of the 1987 gathering with Pope John Paul II.
“And now to be able to experience some 21 years later, yet another
Pope coming and meeting with a similar group is going to be a great
perspective for me. I believe I’ll be in a position to assess what
the impact has been since Pope John Paul’s message to the
Presidents – and ways perhaps in which Catholic Colleges and
Universities have changed and become stronger as a result of that.
So I’m excited from a historical perspective to be able to be one
of those few people who would have been present for both
talks.”
Rev. Harrington, C.M., one of the senior presidents of this
prestigious group of Catholic Colleges and Universities, enters his
20th year as President at St. John’s (NY). St. John’s, a Vincentian
University, is one of the largest Catholic Institutions of Higher
Education in the United States.

Thursday, April 17, 2008, immediately after Pope Benedict XVI’s
meeting (scheduled for 5 p.m.) with Catholic Leaders. Estimated
timing for interviews with Rev. Harrington, C.M. from 6 - 6:45 p.m.
