Jamaica, NY - St. John's University has dedicated Helen and Hugh
L. Carey Hall, one of its six residences on the Queens campus, in
honor of Hon. Hugh L. Carey ('42C, '51L) and his late wife
Helen.
An alumnus of St. John's University and the School of Law, Gov.
Carey received the Medal of Honor in 1992 and the Spirit of Service
award in 2000. The former two-term Governor of New York was honored
in a ceremony attended by family, friends and members of the
University community.

Previously named Hillcrest Hall, Helen and Hugh L. Carey Hall
opened in the fall of 1999 as one of the first of six residences on
the Queens campus. It houses approximately 196 students,
consisting of single and double rooms sharing multiple baths and is
outfitted with telecommunications, data and cable outlets for each
of its residents.
At St. John's University education is not only about career
preparation but about learning to make a difference in the world.
In addition to rigorous academic study, there is a focus on direct
experience helping those less fortunate, which is at the core of
our Vincentian heritage. With a total enrollment of more than
19,000 students, St. John's University operates five campuses: in
Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan and Oakdale in New York and in
Rome, Italy. The University has six schools and colleges: The
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, The Tobin College of Business
(including the School of Risk Management), The College of Pharmacy,
The School of Education, The College of Professional Studies and
the School of Law. St. John's offers associate, baccalaureate,
master's, doctoral and professional degrees.
