The event, which raised more than $2 million in funding for the
School of Risk Management, was attended by more than 1,300 people
in what has become a staple of the calendar year within the
insurance industry.
“St. John’s is steeped in rich history and I’m honored to receive
this award,” said Case. “I also feel humbled to play a small role
in supporting a great cause to build the next generation of leaders
(in the insurance industry) at St. John’s.”
Dr. Ellen
Thrower, Executive Director of the School of Risk Management at St.
John’s, noted that the university was “heartened and inspired by
the tremendous turnout and generous support despite the nation’s
current economic downturn.” Peter B. Walker, Director of McKinsey
& Company (New York), served as Honorary Chairman of the dinner
and had the privilege of introducing his good friend and colleague
presenting him with the “Insurance Leader of the Year Award for
2008.”
“Greg was a star in our industry from the very beginning,’ noted
Walker. “I’ve watched his career with great admiration. He is one
of the all-time humble guys in our business who has truly made a
difference with his enthusiasm, energy and incredibly high
aspirations.”
The “Insurance Leader of the Year Award,” presented annually since
1995, recognizes the contributions of outstanding individuals whose
leadership in the worldwide insurance and financial services
industry sets them apart from their peers. Last year’s
recipient was James J. Schiro, Chief Executive Officer, Zurich
Financial Services. The Award Selection Committee is chaired by
Joseph Mauriello, Retired Deputy Chairman of KPMG.
Founded in 1901, SRM was known as the Insurance Society of New York
and over the years evolved into The College of Insurance
(TCI). In June 2001, TCI merged with St. John’s University,
becoming a school of The Peter J. Tobin College of
Business.
Located in New York City’s downtown financial district, SRM awards
undergraduate, M.B.A., and M.S. degrees in the insurance, risk
management and actuarial science disciplines. Through its
Center for Professional Education, SRM also provides education,
training and consulting services to the industry, governments and
regulators worldwide.
