For
four hours on April 23, the St. John’s community gathered on
the Great Lawn to take a break from class work. Students, faculty
and staff sampled free rides and games — including a giant slide
and space war maze — along with Dippin' Dots Ice Cream, popcorn and
other treats.
“I love the carnival. Spring Fling is a great escape from the
rigors of the academic semester, and a chance to have fun with
friends before finals start,” said Stacey Theodore, a junior
psychology major waiting in line for the coaster ride.
Newly-appointed men's basketball coach Steve Lavin was on hand to
greet students in the “Lavin Room” tent. Students received free
t-shirts, "Lovin’ Lavin" Hershey’s bars and car magnets.
A
weeklong celebration at the Queens campus, Spring Fling is filled
with activities and events offering relaxation before finals.
Spring carnival concluded with the highly-anticipated,
2010 Cirque de la Mode fashion show and concert, featuring
musical artist Ryan Leslie.
The celebration was sponsored by the Student Programming Board and
Residence Hall Association along with the Office of Campus
Activities. Spring Week reflects St. John’s commitment to creating
a vibrant campus life for its students.
