Student teams argued on behalf of their party platforms during a
mock "Presidential Debate" at the Staten Island campus on
Wednesday, October 20. Representing the views of the three major
political parties -- Republican, Democrat, and Independent -- the
students debated such issues as homeland security and the economy
before an audience of nearly 100 observers. Organized by St. John's
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Professional
Studies and the University Freshman Center, the discussion followed
the format of an actual Presidential Debate, in which candidates
respond to a moderator's questions followed by a rebuttal from the
opposing parties.
