 Dr. Frederika Bell-Berti
St. John's College Department of Speech, Communications and Theatre
Organized a Special Session on Speech Intelligibility and AAC Devices at the Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America, in Austin, TX, November 10-14 2003. She was also a co-author of a paper in the session: Carol Conroy, Lawrence Raphael, and Fredericka Bell-Berti. The effects of four variables on the intelligibility of synthesized sentences. Ms. Conroy is an alumna of St. John's M.A. program.

Is the curator of the current exhibition "Marshall Arisman, Power Animals" in Chung Cheng Art Gallery at St. John's.  The exhibition was reviewed in the October 24 edition of The Chronicle of Higher Education, the October 19 edition of Newsday and the October 2 edition of The Queens Courier.

Presented a Swarthmore College-sponsored lecture on "Shen Congwen and His Imperfect Paradise" to a Chinese literature class in Swarthmore, PA, November 4, 2003. He was a Taiwan-government sponsored Visiting Scholar for the month of October at the Institute of Literature and Philosophy, Academia Sinica (Zhongyang Yanjiu Yuan, Central Research Academy), Nangang, Taiwan.  He delivered three two-hour lectures with Q&A in and around Taipei: October 21, at Aletheia (Zhenli) University, Tamsui:  "Literatures of Frontiers Soon to Close: Li Qiao, Willa Cather, and O. E. Rolvagg"; October 23, at the Academia Sinica, Nangang: "Mainland Anticorruption Fiction and 'Heaven's Wrath'"; October 24, at Fu-hsing-kang College, Shilin, "Mainland and Western Views on Current Mainland Chinese Mass Culture."

She presented her work at the OIA (Organization of Independent Artists) Members' Showcase at Gallery 402, NYC from October 15-24, 2003. As a Member of the Organization of Independent Artists she presented her work in a group show, "OIA MEMBERS' SHOWCASE," at Gallery 402  in October in New York.

Was featured in an article in Semestrale di Cultura, "Paul Fabozzi:  Le Voci Della Pietra," written by Dr. Annalisa Sacca.

Exhibited his work at the ISO Tpower Lobby, 545 Washington Blvd., Jersey City, NJ, October 4-25, 2003.  The show, entitled "INSIDE/OUT" included "Works on Paper."  He also exhibited at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in Lancaster, PA, from September 2-October 17, 2003, with "Rethinking Landscape."

Exhibited his work at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, which is presenting, "A Five-Year Survey of the Altoids Curiously Strong Collection," a showcase of today's most talented emerging contemporary artists.  The exhibition is at 391 Broadway (at Walker), NYC from October 23-November 30, 2003.

Is the set and costume designer for the New School University presention of "Mysticus."  This joyous celebration of song, rhythm, drums and dance with a Brazilian band features Alesh DuCarmo at the Tishman Auditorium Friday, November 7, 2003, at 7:30 p.m.

Has published a chapter entitled "The Fiend Gives Friendly Counsel: Launcelot Gobbo and Polyglot Economics in The Merchant of Venice" in a new collection of essays edited by Linda Woodbridge, Money and the Age of Shakespeare: Essays in New Economic Criticism (Palgrave Macmillan, 2003).
