Men's Baseball
St. John's scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to break
open the game, en route to a 5-0 win over St. Francis April 6 at
Richmond County Bank Ballpark, home of the Class A Staten Island
Yankees. The win was the fifth-straight for St. John's, and the
13th in the last 15 outings. The Red Storm improved to 16-9 overall
with the victory.
St. Francis senior starter Rob Eberhart had held St. John's in
check over the first four innings. After putting two runners on in
the first, and giving up one run on two hits in the second,
Eberhart retired the six straight batters.
Men's Golf
The St. John's men's golf team finished in 13th place at the
Princeton Invitational that was played at Springdale G.C. in
Princeton, N.J. April 10. The Red Storm carded a final round
24-over par 308, finishing the tournament with a 45-over par 613.
Hosting the tournament was Princeton University who finished in
first place with a 15-over par 583. Rounding out the top five was
Towson with a 587, Georgetown with a 590, Temple with a 591 and
George Washington with a 594.
Men's Tennis
The St. John's men's tennis team improved to 9-8 overall after
picking up two wins April 10 at the courts at St. John's. The Red
Storm, who are now 3-1 in BIG EAST action, swept conference foe
Connecticut, 7-0, for their fifth-straight win, before beating
Fairleigh Dickinson 6-0, making it six-straight.
In the first match of the day, the Red Storm outplayed the
Huskies in every match, dropping only one set on the afternoon. The
doubles pairs of Louis Desmarteaux/Claudio Holim and David
Nylen/Morgan Bauer each beat won by a score of 8-5, beating Matt
Stinson/Brian Ravesloof and Sam Sutherland/George Rzepecki in the
No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Todd Goldberg and Nick Stocker
walked away with an easy 8-2 win over Andy Sweatt and Joel Gouroran
at the No. 2 spot.
Women's Softball
The St. John's University softball team swept Seton Hall April 10
in a BIG EAST doubleheader played at Cameron Field in South Orange,
N.J. The Red Storm behind a 10th inning grand slam by freshman
Christina Tucker and a complete game by senior Courtney Fitzgerald
took game one, 7-2, in 10 innings. In game two, St. John's scored
four runs with two outs in the fourth inning to take the game, 5-1.
The Red Storm improves to 17-15 overall and 3-1 in the conference,
while the Pirates fall to 22-12 overall and 1-3 in BIG EAST
play.
