Dr. John
Lowney awarded the 2004-2005 Donald C. Gallup Fellowship
in American literature by the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript
Library at Yale University; also presented a paper, "William Carlos
Williams and Third-Phase Objectivism," at the Annual Modern
Language Association Conference in San Diego (December
2003).
Professor Barbara B. Appleby (University
Libraries) received Honors in
Research from the 18th Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards, for
the documentary film, Hoxie: The First Stand, which received the
regional Emmy for outstanding writing; the documentary is also a
2004 recipient of the prestigious Peabody Award.
Dr. Deborah Saldana (Early Childhood,
Childhood and Adolescent Education) was an invited speaker at the Brown v. Board of
Education: the Unfinished Agenda Conference in Huntington, NY. The
topic was "Addressing the Challenges for Hispanic Students, Where
Ethnicity, Language and Residency Status Complicate the Education
Process." Also she was the recipient of an award by the "GEAR UP"
program for excellence in program development.
