St. John’s University accepts Mayor
Bloomberg’s call to become a “PLAN-Y-C Challenge
Partner”
- St. John’s University enthusiastically supports Mayor
Bloomberg’s powerful vision, and his call to action, to make New
York an even greater city. We applaud the Mayor’s leadership and we
look forward to collaborating with his team and our fellow PLAN-Y-C
partners to achieve these important goals. As a “PLAN-Y-C
Challenge Partner,” St. John’s commits to do its part in the global
fight against climate change.
- With more than 20,000 students and 3 million square feet of
facilities, St. John’s can have a positive impact on the
environment as well as having a positive impact on our students,
future leaders of New York, by educating and engaging them in
responsible stewardship of their environment.
- We look forward to the power of collaboration and synergy as we
join other PLAN-Y-C Challenge Partners to address these issues and
to share best practices.
- Like my colleagues at the other Challenge Partner Schools, St.
John’s has already begun implementing a series of concrete
measures, large and small, to move our university forward: We have
embraced LEEDs standards for all new construction; We have
implemented a multi-campus improvement program to increase the
energy efficiency of all existing facilities, and we plan to
migrate to dual fuel vehicles on all campuses. These initiatives
demonstrate our commitment to action, and readiness to do
more.
- We thank the Mayor for his leadership, his vision, and most
importantly for his daily example of implementing real change in
New York.
Thank you, Mayor Bloomberg
