On February 16, 2005, members of the St. John’s University
College Republicans were invited to City Hall as guests of
Republican City Councilmen
Dennis Gallagher,
James Oddo and fellow alumnus
Andrew Lanza ’87CBA. The student group attended a finance
committee meeting, general session and enjoyed a full tour of City
Hall. The College Republicans were well received by the entire
governing body and praised for their professionalism and eagerness
to learn the nuances of the City Council. In several instances, the
College Republicans were directly addressed during sessions chaired
by the Public Advocate. Afterward, the Councilmen took the College
Republicans out for lunch to socialize and to debate the pressing
issues facing the city today.
Everyone involved agreed that the event was a phenomenal
success, and they left with a desire to further pursue their
interest in politics. This event was made possible by the generous
support of Councilman Gallagher and his office, the fortitude of
the Office of
Community Relations Associate Rob Carr and the drive and
ambition of the College Republican Executive Board.
