Professors of the Year
Professors Thomas Ward and Peter P. Cardelena, Jr. received
Professor of the Year Awards from Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at
an awards dinner held on April 22nd in Bent Hall. Husain Ebrahimi,
president of the fraternity and Anthony Capalbo, vice president,
presented the awards, which recognize outstanding dedication and
commitment to academic excellence and to the University
community.
7th Annual Criminal Justice Awards
Dinner
Two hundred people were present in Bent Hall on April 18th for the
7th Annual Criminal Justice Awards Dinner. Sponsored by the
Division of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies of the St. John’s
University College of Professional Studies, along with the Office
of Alumni Relations and the Criminal Justice Association, the event
honors leadership in the criminal justice community.
Joyce A. Stephen, Deputy Commissioner for Community Affairs, New
York City Police Department, was presented with the Criminal
Justice Distinguished Leadership Award and Philip C. Spinelli,
Chief Coordinator of Counter Terrorism for the Union County (NJ)
Prosecutor’s Office as well as a St. John’s alumnus, received the
Criminal Justice Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Dr. Keith Carrington, Associate Professor of Criminal Justice,
was the recipient of the Craig Collins Award, named for the founder
of the Criminal Justice program at St. John’s and given each year
to a deserving faculty member. Natalie Nieves, President of the SJU
Criminal Justice Association, was honored for student service to
the University.
Dean’s Office
Annual Awards Ceremony
On Tuesday, April 19, 2005, the College of Professional Studies
held its annual Awards Ceremony. CPS students were honored
for not only their academic achievement in the various majors but
also recognized for their service and commitment to the Vincentian
mission of the University. Approximately 400 students and
parents filled Marillac Terrace, including special guests Jackie
Grogan-Finnegan from the University Freshman Center and Chris
Monasch, Director of Athletics.
TV Center
The CPS TV Center in conjunction with Alumni Relations co-hosted
the 2nd annual TV & Media Alumni Reunion on Saturday evening
April 20, 2005. With 78 people in attendance the 2nd reunion
attracted more than double the attendance of the first.
