Dominic Scianna
Dominic Scianna is a 14-year veteran at St. John’s University and has served as Assistant Vice President for Media Relations since September 2005.
Prior to his move to the Media Relations Office he held several posts in the St. John’s Athletics Department serving as Associate Athletics Director for Communications (1996-2004) and Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs (2004-2005).
Scianna has developed strong relationships with national and New York news and sports media outlets. He has worked closely with St. John’s partners to promote and publicize academic initiatives, faculty experts, special events, global strategies, guest lecturers and other University-related business.
The Office of Media Relations has tackled several new initiatives during Scianna’s tenure. He was responsible in establishing a media training strategic plan that has been embraced by senior administrators, deans, faculty members, staff and student-athletes that continues to evolve today.
In May 2008, Scianna was cited as recipient of the Administrative Outstanding Achievement Medal for loyalty and dedication to the University. In 2001, Scianna and a volunteer staff of more than 300 received high commendation from the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship Committee in serving as Media Relations Coordinator for the First and Second Rounds of the Division I Collegiate Basketball Championships at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, New York.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Scianna earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College in his hometown in 1984. He and his wife Kerri live in East Meadow, NY with his mother Rose and their two sons Peter and Anthony.
