Dr. Robert Mangione

Dr. Robert A. Mangione, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions and Clinical Professor of Pharmacy, joined the St. John's University faculty in 1979. During his tenure at St. John's University, Dr. Mangione served as a clinical faculty member at Nassau University Medical Center (formerly Nassau County Medical Center) from 1979 to 1981 and at Schneider's Children's Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center from 1981 to 1990. While at Schneider's Children's Hospital, Dr. Mangione also served as the institution's Pediatric Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator. In 1990, he was appointed Assistant Dean for Pharmacy Student Affairs at St. John's. He was appointed Associate Dean in 1996 and Dean in 1999. Prior to joining the faculty at the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, Dr. Mangione served as a Pharmacy Intern at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan and a Pharmacy Resident at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Center, Long Island.

Dr. Mangione earned his B.S. in Pharmacy at St. John's University. He also holds an M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from St. John's University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions as well as a P.D. and an Ed.D. in Educational Administration and Supervision from St. John's University School of Education. Dr. Mangione's research interests include Pediatric Pharmacotherapy and Poverty Issues in Healthcare and Education. He maintains professional licensure in New York State and is an active member in the American Pharmaceutical Association and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. He served as the President of the Long Island Society of Hospital Pharmacists and editor of the New York State Journal of Pharmacy. Dr. Mangione was a contributing editor to the Children's Hospital Quarterly and to U.S. Pharmacist. In addition, Dr. Mangione is a professional member of the New York State Board of Pharmacy. He also serves as an active member of the Rite Aid National Dean's Advisory Board and the Medco Health Dean's Advisory Board. At present, Dr. Mangione serves as the Secretary-Treasurer for District II of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy/American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. 

Dr. Mangione has published over 100 articles in professional literature.  He has been honored by St. John's University receiving the Outstanding Faculty Achievement Award in 1989, the Vincentian Mission Award in 1995 and the Pietas Medal in 2002. St. John's University Pharmacy students voted Dr. Mangione Teacher of the Year in 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1996. In 1997, he was named an "Outstanding Alumni" and inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York. When not at St. John's, Dr. Mangione serves as a CYO basketball Coach and a Sunday lector at St. Raymond of Pentaforte RC Church in East Rockaway, Long Island.
