chapter’s commitment to excellence in the areas of programming,
recognition, service ideals, practices, inquiry, reflection,
professional development, leadership development and retention.
Since the ACE awards program’s inception in 1995, it has recognized
Kappa Delta Pi chapters that exhibit outstanding programming in
support of the Society’s mission and strategic goals.
Founded in 1911, Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in
Education is dedicated to scholarship and excellence in education.
St. John’s School of Education installed the Kappa Eta chapter at
the University’s Queens campus in 1964. Since its installation, the
chapter has provided seminars and conventions for St. John’s
students studying education.
As part of the University community, Kappa Eta also participates in
on- and off- campus community service projects, various
philanthropies and professional development activities. In order to
qualify for membership, an undergraduate student must have a
minimum of a 3.25 grade point average and a graduate student must
have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. Kappa Eta also
requires its members to attend various service events and KDP
meetings each semester.
Associate Dean Charisse Willis from The School of Education says of
Kappa Eta’s students and work, “Throughout the time that I have
been the Head Counselor for Kappa Eta, I’ve been so proud of all
the hard work the students have put into Kappa Eta. Kappa Eta is a
special part of my life because of what it has to offer. The
service, the learning experience and the people you meet are
unforgettable. Just like the mission of St. John’s University,
Kappa Eta serves, teaches and shares with the community the way we
must live to make this world a better place.”
