Pursuing a degree in Education? Or would you like an
amazing opportunity to explore San Juan, the “Gem” of the
Caribbean, while taking specially designed courses to enhance your
understanding of the differences between the United States and
Puerto Rico?
St. John’s University’s Office of Global Studies has put together a
unique program that allows future educators to study in both New
York City and San Juan while participating in a variety of
excursions that complement the coursework.
This fabulous opportunity begins on St. John’s Queens campus in New
York City. From June 1-14, you will have the opportunity to take
the independent study course, EDU 1030, with School of Education
Associate Dean Charisse Willis, who will aid you in constructing an
independent study that explores both the United States and Puerto
Rico.
You’ll also spend two weeks (June 14–28) in San Juan,
Puerto Rico, continuing your studies at the Universidad de Puerto
Rico, Recinto Rio Piedras, one of the oldest universities in Puerto
Rico, located near Old San Juan. Working with the Universidad de
Puerto Rico’s team, you will discover picturesque neighborhoods and
modern wonders and deepen your understanding of the socio-economic
struggles in Puerto Rico. You will also engage in Academic
Service-Learning projects that will provide first-hand knowledge of
the daily experiences of poverty- stricken individuals in the
city.
Those who enroll in the program are being offered the special
option of living on St. John’s campus while studying in Queens. The
program fee for those who choose this option is $1,990, and
includes both room and board during the two weeks; if you choose to
commute, the program fee is just $1,360.
