In what has become an annual fall tradition on the Queens, NY, campus, St. John’s University hosted local Catholic high school principals, guidance counselors, and senior University administrators for an appreciation dinner and discussion of shared issues and ideas in secondary and higher education.

St. John’s 27th Annual Winter Carnival, a week-long celebration of the season, concluded on December 6 as students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents gathered on the Queens campus for the University’s Christmas tree lighting and Grucci fireworks display.

Dedicating a permanent memorial to a towering figure in Red Storm and American basketball history, St. John’s University unveiled an 11-foot-six-inch bronze statue of the late and legendary men’s basketball Coach Joe Lapchick.

Having just returned from the 2017 OLC Accelerate Conference, one of the largest online learning conferences in the world, I would like to share some of my thoughts and experiences, and offer commentary on the state of online learning in higher education generally, and here at St. John’s University.
