When six St. John’s undergraduates joined Konrad Tuchscherer, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Director of Africana Studies, on a two-week trip through Cameroon in May, they not only got an inside look at the country of more than 23 million, they saw firsthand the benefits of experiential learning.
St. John’s University will host the 19th Annual Summer Concert featuring Martin Majkut, Music Director and the Queens Symphony Orchestra’s (QSO) presentation of “A Midsummer's Enchanted Evening” on Wednesday, August 2 at 7 p.m. on the University’s Queens campus.
The National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (NCCEP) and Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) honored St. John’s University administrator Yvette Morgan, Ph.D. with its “Professional of the Year” award at their annual national convention in San Francisco, CA last week. Morgan has been the Director for GEAR UP at St. John’s for the past 14 years.
As six St. John’s University students ascended the 6,500 foot Mount Mbapit in Cameroon this past summer, they laughed recalling the requirement to train with intense cardio in the SJU Fitness Center before joining the study abroad trip.
