Michael Benjamin ’16C, ’17G was a commuter student at St. John’s. Though he enjoyed spending his days on campus and evenings at home, he was eager to begin a new academic experience this summer—living and learning in a rural district of the Slovak Republic.

St. John’s University students, Siddharth Sunilkumar, Natalie N. Orie, and Trudi Denoon, have been selected to participate in the Science Alliance Leadership Training (SALT) at the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) in Manhattan this summer.
SJU and NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Enter New Collaboration
At a signing ceremony held at St. John’s University’s Queens campus, the University, and NewYork-Presbyterian Queens entered into an agreement to explore new opportunities to collaborate in health care services, community wellness, academic programs, research efforts, and educational endeavors between the two long-serving metropolitan institutions. The two institutions have already collaborated on areas of sports medicine and public health awareness, and are expanding the partnership to better serve the Queens community.
History Department Recognized for Career Diversity
St. John’s University’s doctoral program in World History was recognized by the American Historical Association (AHA) as part of its Career Diversity for Historians initiative. Four faculty members from SJU: Associate Professor and History Graduate Director Nerina Rustomji, Ph.D.; Professor and Chair Dolores Augustine, Ph.D.; Associate Professor Lara Vapnek, Ph.D.; and Associate Professor Kristin Szylvian, Ph.D. will join faculty members from 36 other history departments around the United States to discuss emerging models for preparing doctoral students for a diverse range of careers and to share resources for integrating career diversity into graduate curricula.

The National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (NCCEP) and Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) will honor St. John’s University administrator Yvette Morgan, Ph.D. with its “Professional of the Year” award at their annual national convention in San Francisco, CA this summer. Morgan has been the Director for GEAR UP at St. John’s for the past 14 years.
