School of Risk Management Teams Up With Protiviti to Examine U.S. Insurance Companies Readiness to Comply With ORSA

This October, St. John’s University’s School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science teamed up with global consulting firm Protiviti to conduct a joint-study regarding U.S. insurance companies and the changes to risk management practices as they prepare for 2015 Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) requirements.

St. John’s University’s School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (SRM) recently collaborated with the International Insurance Society (IIS) to analyze global risk management and insurance education in a rapidly expanding market. The Collegiate Education in Risk Management and Insurance Globally: Past, Present and Future study, authored by SRM faculty member Dr. W. Jean Kwon, calls for a need to increase the quality and broaden accessibility to risk management and insurance education programs worldwide.
On October 15, 2014, nearly 200 regulators, industry leaders, academics and students came together to discuss insurance regulation and supervision during the Regulation as a Business Risk Conference hosted by the School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science (SRM) at BNY Mellon in New York City.

Research is an essential part of the faculty’s contribution to the Tobin College of Business. Our faculty are continuously engaging in impactful research, influencing the fields in which they teach and inspiring their students to build upon their textbook knowledge.
This past May, our successful Global Destination Courses (GDC) travelled to Germany, Switzerland, Rome, Paris and London. Students were able to meet high level executives from these various countries and experienced the diverse cultures and cuisines offered to them on these exciting and educational trips.
