More than 2,500 students, faculty, and administrators attended St. John’s University’s annual Spring Fling Carnival on Thursday, April 27.

Held on the Great Lawn of the Queens campus, the annual event featured rides, games, and snacks. Johnny Thunderbird was present to take selfies with participants.

“This year’s theme is ‘Spring into You,’” said Jodi Cox ’98C, ’02G, Director of Campus Life. “Our hope is that, as the season begins to change, students will see and feel the revitalization of new beginnings.” With finals approaching, Ms. Cox added, “we want to evoke a feeling of joy, happiness, and peace before the stress of the semester descends upon our students.”

“This was thrilling,” said Arianna Clatterbuck ’18C, who rode the virtual roller coaster—a tent equipped with rows of seats and goggles that simulated the experience. “It was just like a real roller coaster,” she said, “with all the bumps, twists, and turns.”

"The Spring Carnival isn't just a celebration of the end of the spring semester,” noted Dylan Hornik ’18CPS. “This brings out the best in people and renews their love for the University. It's a memory that generations of Johnnies can share.”

Mirtelle Mendoza ’20CPS said she appreciated the stress relief at a busy time of the year. “This is a great way to ease some pressure and give students a reward for all the work we’ve done all semester,” she said. “It’s wonderful to take a break from studying in the library—to go out to the Great Lawn and spend time with my friends.”

“For me, this event demonstrates St. John's commitment to building a comfortable environment for every student, both inside and outside the classroom,” said Amber Hatcher ’18C. “I’m thankful that the University invests in creating a ‘family’ environment like this.”
