Associate Vice President for St. John's Athletics and Senior Women Administrator Kathy Meehan will be honored as an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Legend during halftime of the 2016 Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival matchup between St. John's and Penn State on Dec. 18.

Meehan will be one of four legends recognized for her contributions to ECAC basketball during the annual festival along with Hollis Copeland (Rutgers University), Tyler Smith (Penn State University) and Marcus Stout (Fordham University).

A member of the first women's basketball team at St. John's in 1974-75, Meehan continues to play a vital role in the success of St. John's Athletics, currently serving in her fourth decade as an administrator.

In addition to her role as Associate VP for Athletics and SWA, Meehan oversees Internal Relations, Title IX compliance, human resources, strategic planning and enforcement of the student-athlete Code of Conduct. She is also the sport administrator for the Red Storm women's basketball, men's tennis, women's tennis, softball and volleyball programs.

The driving force behind the development of the Community Service Program and the LifeSkills program (now Student Development) at St. John's for all student-athletes, Meehan has also represented the university on numerous NCAA and BIG EAST committees during her tenure.

Meehan is the former chair of the conference's Senior Woman Administrator Committee and a current member of the BIG EAST Championships Committee and BIG EAST Women's Basketball Task Force. She previously served on the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee (2010-15), the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee (2005-09) and the NCAA Division I Recruiting and Athletics Personnel Cabinet. She was also the university's representative for the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Basketball Association from 2001-05.

A 1991 St. John's University Hall of Fame inductee, Meehan was a member of the committee that spearheaded the hiring of Anton Goff, who will begin his tenure as St. John's Director of Athletics in mid-December.

The Johnnies will lace up their sneakers at the "World's Most Famous Arena" on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. against Penn State, in the first-game of a one-day doubleheader featuring local squads.
