Role of Risk in Today's Society

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a global body for professional accountants, and The Center for Excellence in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) at St. John’s University hosted a panel discussion on the role of risk in today's society on Thursday, October 13, 2016 on the Manhattan campus.
The event, Insights on Risk in a Disruptive Age, highlighted how the marketplace is changing and evaluated the shifts that threaten business models that aren’t able to withstand disruption.
Panelists included Henry Ristuccia, partner, Deloitte & Touche LLP; Lee Marks, Global Head of Enterprise Risk Management, First Data; and Michael J. Lynn, a thought leader in audit, risk, control and governance. The panel was moderated by Paul Walker, Ph.D., James J. Schiro/Zurich Chair in ERM and executive director, Center for Excellence in ERM, as they discussed the role of risk management and how to approach strategic risks. Topics included trends shaping the future of risk, areas of innovation, risk creating value rather than just protecting it, risk intelligence and what a risk manager needs to do in order to balance organizational culture and company governance.
