A Day of Health and Wellness for SJU Alumnae

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

Over 160 participants, including more than 90 St. John’s alumnae, gained insights into health and well-being issues at a recent Women and Wellness event at the D'Angelo Center on the University’s Queens campus.

The June 21 event was sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations and the Department of Student Wellness and featured sessions designed to provide women with the tools necessary for balancing the disparate areas of their lives, while fostering on their own happiness.

"We see a need to provide opportunities for women to take time out for themselves," said Desiree Henry '10G, assistant director, Office of Alumni Relations. "With so many responsibilities, women need a day to reconnect with themselves and with other women.  St. John’s is always here for our alumni. We want to continue the lifelong relationship that starts from the day they walk on campus."

Keynote speaker Jeanne Stafford, a motivational speaker and coach, offered a "roadmap" for attendees to achieve happiness in all areas of their lives. She stressed that they should spend time with those that have their best interests at heart.

"It's fun and empowering to be with friends and other women, discussing issues, supporting each other, and having a day for ourselves," observed Janis M. Kucich '78P, '84GP.

"This was my first time at this event, and my first time back to St. John’s since graduating,” said Dianne Pari '94G. “It was a great opportunity to connect with other SJU alumni."
