Epsilon Kappa, St. John's University's Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, Celebrates its 50th Anniversary with a Series of Events
Epsilon Kappa, the St. John’s chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a series of events planned from April 2-23.
Founded on April 17, 1964, Epsilon Kappa works to promote Hispanic culture on and off campus through interviews with foremost literary figures, open forums for readings and literary discussions, as well as through the publication of Entre Rascacielos, its bilingual journal of creative writing.
The following is a list of events planned to highlight Epsilon Kappa’s 50th Anniversary:
• Wednesday, April 02
Epsilon Kappa’s 50th Anniversary Opening Celebration: A collaboration with Americas Society
This historic celebration taking place at Americas Society will feature opening remarks by Dr. Marie-Lise Gazarian of St. John’s University, with comments and readings by Epsilon Kappa members and special invited guests.
• Friday, April 04
Piano Recital Featuring World-Renowned Argentinean Pianist, Rosa Antonelli
The Argentine pianist, whom critics have called “the woman of magic fingers,” will perform works from her new album, “Remembranza.” The recital will be followed up with the presentation of her new book, “PIANO: The Spirit of Technique and Interpretation.”

Book Presentation by Spanish Playwright, Novelist and Author, Vanessa Montfort
St. John Hall, Rooms 104-106
Book presentation of La leyenda de la isla sin voz, the latest novel by Montfort. The story takes place in Blackwell's Island, today known as Roosevelt Island. The novel, just published in Spain, is being translated into English.
• Wednesday, April 23
Epsilon Kappa’s Induction Ceremony
The presentation of “Entre Rascacielos, Volume 23,” the creative writing journal published by Epsilon Kappa. The event also includes a poetry reading by students, alumni and guest poets.
