Former Jamaican Bobsledder Will Share Inspirational Story with SJU Students

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Devon Harris, a member of the legendary Jamaican national bobsled team that inspired the Disney film Cool Runnings, will share his insights and experiences with students as part of St. John’s University’s Caribbean Writers Series.

The event takes place at 1:50 p.m. on Monday, March 31, in the D’Angelo Center, room 128. Harris will discuss his life and read selected passages from his books—a semiautobiographical, motivational work, Keep on Pushing: Hot Lessons from Cool Runnings; and a children's book, Yes, I Can!

Harris’s team made its debut in the 1988 winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada. Harris went on to serve as the team’s captain in the 1992 (Albertville, France) and 1998 (Nagano, Japan) winter Olympics. He established the Keep on Pushing Foundation in 2006 to support and enhance the education of disadvantaged children around the world.
