Annual Relay for Life Returns to St. John’s
With the ultimate goal of eradicating cancer, St. John's will be hosting the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life once again, on Friday, April 4, in Carnesecca Arena.
Relay for Life is an international effort in which communities raise funds for cancer research, celebrate the courage of survivors, and honor those who have died. Each year, hundreds of St. John’s students, faculty, administrators, and staff join together to raise money to fight cancer by participating in this all-night walkathon. Last year, SJU raised more than $105,000.
To honor a loved one in support of this important cause, members of the St. John’s community are encouraged to purchase a luminaria. These glowing tributes to individuals affected by cancer will be placed around the main court in Carnesecca Arena and lit during the Luminaria Ceremony.
Those who want to join the fight against cancer also can show make a donation or pledge by filling out the “General Donation” line on the attached form. Gifts of any size are welcome, and all are tax deductible. Your contribution will save lives, help those touched by cancer, and empower people to fight back.
Please return the order form by Tuesday, April 1, to Mary H. Pelkowski, D’Angelo Center, room 121. If you have any questions, please contact her directly: 718-990-1420, firstname.lastname@example.org. To form a Relay For Life team, visit stjohns.edu/relay.
