2004 IBM ThinkPad University Higher Education Advisory Council
St. John’s University was represented at the IBM ThinkPad University Higher Education Advisory Council by Walter Kerner, Director of Enterprise Network Services. Topics discussed included IBM Technologies, Customer based direction on what is important, ThinkVantage Tech portfolio concepts, ThinkCentre/ThinkVision portfolio, and the ThinkPad portfolio.

Hosted by St. John's University. National Federation of University Co-operative Associations (NFUCA), was founded in 1947 and has been operated by its staff members, consisting of university students and faculties in nationwide. With 226 university affiliates, the federation offers students a wide range of products and services ranging from books and other educational materials to computer hardware. In order to put PCs to their fullest possible use in university coursework and research, NFUCA’s role also includes introducing recommended computer models to freshmen, as well as case studies of university and student activities and other helpful information.

A Student-Centered Mobile Computing Initiative: This presentation deals with implementing a mobile computing initiative. There are three main issues: how to finance a program, what technology is needed to implement it, and what faculty development is required for success. The main pedagogical strategy is to engage participants in group work. Presenters: Julie Upton, Provost; James Benson, Chief Information Officer and Director of the University Libraries; Maura C. Flannery, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning; and Bernadette Lavin, Director of Information Technology.
