The Peter J. Tobin College of Business and the Office of
Institutional Advancement's Alumni Insider’s View Program co-hosted
a Woman in Leadership Breakfast on March 8, 2012 at 3 West Club in
New York City to give students insight into what they can do to
kick start their career and position themselves to be gainfully
employed after graduation.
The panel discussion featured four successful and influential
St. John’s University alumnae:
Theresa P. Ahlstrom, partner at KPMG, a U.S. audit, tax and
advisory services firm. Ahlstrom had more than 29 years of
experience with the firm, making partner in 1993. She is currently
the national service line risk management partner for several
Advisory service lines. In this role, Ms. Ahlstrom is responsible
for internal quality control and risk management processes and
initiatives for all Advisory engagements in the service lines that
Eileen Donnelly Alexanderson, chief information officer of Black
Family Partner, a private family office in New York City.
Previously, she was a managing director and Head of US Equities at
Lazard Asset Management where she worked for 24 years as an analyst
and portfolio manager.
Millie D. Joyce, first grade teacher at Locust School in Garden
City, NY. Before making a significant career change, Joyce worked
in the Capital Finance department of Philip Morris.
Claire Tomasi, business manager for Global Banking & Markets
Americas Finance, is responsible for developing and delivering the
People Strategy in Finance, as well as managing information
reported to the chief financial officer. Prior to her current
position, Ms. Tomasi spent nine years in financial services working
at Citicorp Investment Management and Merrill Lynch.
Tobin College Associate Dean for Global Initiatives and
Professor of Management Dr. Linda Sama served as moderator. The
discussion delved into the women’s professional experience, their
ability to overcome challenges, their failures and the benefits
they received from mentoring.
