Academic Computing Initiative

The St. John’s University Academic Computing Initiative was established to give all students equal access to technology.  The components of the Academic Computing Initiative include:

  • Laptop computers for all 2003 and 2004 freshmen and all subsequent incoming freshmen
  • A campus-wide wireless network
  • A student web portal
  • On-going institutional commitment to using technology in the educational process

The Academic Computing Initiative is also focused on making it more natural for professors to use, where appropriate, electronic media either stand alone or internet connected in their classrooms.  This environment is expected to foster more effective communication among all members of the St. John’s University community.
